Nuk Fairy

I remember back to when Brynna was only a couple weeks old and I wished so much that she would just take a nuk. This mom was over the moon excited when she finally took to one at just shy of 6 weeks since it was so needed.

We definitely got what we wished for. She took to the nuk and then became obsessed. We had to have a nuk with us wherever we went. She needed it at all times of the day. I don’t think you’d find many photos of her that the nuk is not attached to her. I rarely gave much effort into weaning the amount of time she got to use it. If she wanted it, she got it. It is Brynna after all. It made her content and that is always my goal.

Well that was always my goal into she grew out of the toddler stage. She then could communicate pretty much anything she wanted and she had figured out many other ways to soothe herself. She’d often be crying in protest or anger or for whatever reason but the nuk did not solve it. She no longer needed it but she still wanted it. Again I was ok with this because I figured with this sour patch girl we’d have a big battle getting rid of it. I debated taking it away at 2.5 years. I thought about weaning her to just bedtime or car rides. I decided pretty quick that she was just too smart for that because I really think she would have just sat in her bed all day long. I changed my plan to wait until she turned 3 and then she’d give it up cold turkey. I talked with her for those 5-6 months before her birthday how she’d give up her nuk when she turned 3. EVERY single time she was not ok with this idea. She never once said ok, she never once cared about my excitement for the event. She did not agree with this plan what-so-ever. Even when I decided to let the nuk fairy help out with our plan she was not impressed. She was ok with the nuk fairy bringing her a present but not taking her nuk. She was excited for the nuk fairy to come three nights since she turned 3 years old but she was not giving up her nuk. Well this momma couldn’t turn back so on the night of her 3rd birthday she went to bed with her nuk knowing that the nuk fairy would come in the middle of the night and take it away leaving her a present for it.

Can you believe this girl did not scream or cry or throw one single fit about her nuk being gone? The first night the nuk fairy got caught and so mom had to lay in bed with her to relax her into going back to sleep. But that was the most “excitement” from the whole ordeal. She asked about it several times but was satisfied with the response that the nuk fairy took it and that we didn’t have it. I couldn’t believe that BRYNNA gave us this little trouble. What a relief except I think she saved it all up for some terrible 3 attitude and power struggles just delayed it a couple weeks, UGH!
