Sippy Time

We've introduced a sippy cup! And he is a huge fan and has done really well with it. I mean look at this:
He likes to hold onto his bottle as well and does really well, so it wasn't a huge surprise that he would try with the sippy cup. We're just offering him water here or there. Hopefully his interest will only grow so that giving up his beloved bottle won't be a huge pain in the buttocks.

Cohen Month 6 Update

We are to the half way mark. It really is strange to think Cohen has been apart of our lives for 6 whole months. I can only imagine how quickly the next 6 months will go.

Cohen really found his tongue this month. He is a huge fan of sticking out his tongue, rolling his tongue, and all the fun lip sounds along with it. It is fun to watch.
Even with all the tongue action you are still able to easily get a smile. This is probably the biggest and best change from Sevea. Sure she was a very happy kid but smiling all the time just wasn't her thing. What a day brightener a smile from this kiddo gives.
This tongue helps lick up all that good milk too! He was spitting up a little more so we dropped his bottles down an ounce at each feeding. It seems to help but he still spits up some. We're wondering if it is partly because of the two teeth that we think will pop through sometime soon. You can tell the two bottom ones are thinking about it but in reality who knows when we'll see them pop through.

He's really taken much more of an interest into others this month as well. He is aware of those around him and really enjoys watching whatever the kids are doing. Especially from his favorite view from the jumperoo. Although Grayson feels like he can stomp all over Cohen, we know it will be no time at all before Cohen gets into the action.

Cohen's eating and sleeping are going well. Cohen still really loves his bottles. But within the past two weeks Cohen has really taken to solids. We ended up having to really thicken his cereal and then he figured it all out. We've stuck to cereal just to have him get the hang of it but veggies, fruit, and meat are on the agenda soon. Our doctor even advised starting to try finger foods. I think once he's sitting on his own we'll give those a try, which he's not quite there yet. He is still going to bed between 6:30-7:00 and wakes up between 6:30-7:30. For now we are fine with his one time a night wake up sometime around 4-5. It might just be the thing that keeps him sleeping in...which he prefers. The days we've let him wake up early he isn't his happy self. And honestly these parents would rather get up for 10 minutes and get to sleep in later :)

With Cohen loving his bottles so much we were very very curious as to what his weight would be. He certainly is our chunky monkey but his stats really make sense why his rolls are never ending! His weight was 18 lbs 1 3/4 oz which put him at 61%. His length went back up to 24% putting him at 25 3/4 inches. Now his chunkiness totally makes sense. Comparing to Sevea she was one inch shorter (24 3/4) but was almost 3 lbs smaller (15 lbs 2oz).

Cohen is growing and happy. We couldn't ask for anything more!

Eat your brussels sprouts and enjoy them too!

Normally that delicious T-bone steak would have been the highlight of this meal. But the brussels sprouts stole the show. Now I grew up eating brussels sprouts every now and then. I can't say they were something I wanted to eat but after college I decided to give them another try. Troy is a great sport about trying anything and everything new I make. So we made steamed brussels sprouts and thought they were good but needed lots of salt and butter. Hence making them not the healthiest option which in all honesty is why we decided to eat them in the first place. Now we can enjoy our brussels sprouts and be healthy about it at the same time. You honestly have got to try this. Don't be discouraged brussels sprouts haters. They are totally different cooked with this method. Go ahead, give it a try!!

Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta
Source SkinnyTaste

Ingredients:
  • 2 oz pancetta, minced (You could totally use bacon as well)
  • 2 lb brussels sprouts (weight after outer leaves and stems removed)
  • 1.5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced or sliced thin (We used jarred garlic and just added a spoons worth)
  • kosher salt and fresh ground pepper

Directions:
With a large sharp knife, finely shred the brussels sprouts after thoroughly washing. In a deep heavy saute pan, sauté pancetta on medium-low heat until fat melts and pancetta becomes golden, about 5 minutes. Add olive oil and garlic and sauté until golden. Add shredded brussels sprouts, salt and pepper to taste and sauté on medium-low heat for about 4-5 minutes until tender crisp.

Here is your crack

You just have to love the stuff that comes out of kids mouths. Well and the stuff that goes in too! This giraffe was borrowed to us from the Zimmers. Carissa had purchased it for Grayson because it had been raved about for teething. Well Grayson never used it. He isn't much of a put things in my mouth kind of kid (which I love!). But his loss is Cohen's gain. He absolutely loves this giraffe. It is hands down his favorite toy. Carissa would tell us how people commented that this toy is crack for babies. There had been several times that this comment was said around Sevea. So what comes out of Sevea's mouth when she hands this toy to Cohen: Here is your crack!
They both "crack" me up on a daily basis!!

Games and Pizza

A fun ducky game with dad. She also enjoyed candy land for the first time with mom.
What better way to spend a Friday night than with games and pizza. We could totally make this a weekly tradition. But I think pizza every Friday would not be good for the waistline....unless we made a much healthier pizza. But who wants healthy pizza when they are craving the real deal. I have a solution for you. Cauliflower crust pizza!!
We made a crumbled sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza
Check out how to make it at Eat Drink Smile. We loved the result. We didn't feel cheated out of the pizza experience at all. Somethings we noted for next time. The crust needs to firm a little so wait before diving in if you want to pick up the pizza easier. Spray the pan REALLY well. Our crust stuck a little to the pan. Limit the amount of toppings. Consider the crust similar to thin crust where you want to watch how much you put on. What we had on it was great but eating with a fork was a better option. This is one recipe we will definitely make again. Oh and it was kid tested, kid approved!
