4th of July 2017

Nothing like recapping a summer holiday vacation with Halloween right around the corner. Life just doesn’t slow down I tell ya. Thankfully the memories of this vacation will certainly last a while. Especially when my kids are constantly bringing up things about this vacation. Sure sign that they enjoyed themselves.
The group went back to the Hayward, WI area. The cabin was just outside Cable, WI which is just little ways past Hayward. Everything about this cabin was amazing. I think the whole group would agree that it was the best yet. It had a separate dining and seating area off the kitchen that allowed for easy after bedtime gathering. Four bedrooms that easily fit each family. We got the bunk bed room (two bunk beds and a couch) which might not seem ideal but it’s been a highlight of the trip for my kids. We hear about that room so much. The water was a perfect distance off of the house and it also had a nice shallow entry. Really I can’t think of a thing that wasn’t great about this cabin. Oh wait! Yes I can. The location was amazing for the scenery and the whole cabin feel…BUT the location was not ideal for running. The roads didn’t have shoulders and the fear of getting run over as at every turn. But most would say just don’t run…I would but my tank clearly explains the situation! Carissa and I made a trip to town for a run and supplies. Ran right into a local parade making the trip 10 times longer but you can’t ask for a more beautiful place to run.

The kids certainly got their exercise swimming all day almost everyday. The beach like I said was perfect. The kids enjoyed jumping off the dock and playing in the sand. We had access to a paddle boat and a canoe that the kids enjoyed going out for rides. We couldn’t secure a pontoon to rent this year but we somehow survived and still had a ton of fun in the water.

Besides the hanging out in the water the kids and adults alike had plenty of fun on land as well. Forts were built, wrestling matches were lost (because with kids no one wins), yard games were won (everyone wins since you play with a drink in hand), water balloon fights, and so much more.

The fourth of July vacation of course has a couple traditions that make this trip different than any other. Like most people we can’t forget the fireworks and then we also do our lobster boil. Funny enough both of these traditions the kids have fun with.

The kids would agree to adding in one more tradition. We attempted to make balloon piñatas at daycare with the help of the kids. It was a lot harder than Pinterest made it seem (go figure) but the end result was worth it. Even if the kids couldn’t help make them, the part they enjoy is the popping anyway. Nothing like handing a kid a pointy hot stick :)

Traditions old and new, we always have a great time over the 4th of July. Each year it seems like we couldn’t have a better vacation. But each year gets better. Let’s hope this holds true!
