We have started what we hope to be a new tradition for the 4th of July holiday. Our framily consisting of the Rotell’s, Witzel’s, Zimmer’s and us rented two cabins close to Hayward, WI. We spent from Thursday to Sunday there and had a great time. So much fun was had not only by the kids but the adults. It truly was a great weekend for everyone.
One thing that was not lacking over this weekend was good food and drinks ;) The first night we decided to go big or eat nothing and made the first ever lobster boil. No one in the group had ever cooked a full lobster and certainly had never done the full boil. But it seemed like a good thing to try out and thankfully transporting 8 live lobsters resulted in yummy cooked lobster in the end.
All the kids were great sports about wearing their festive t-shirts I made them. Even though the tie dye didn’t work as well as I’d like…after following the directions the shirts still bled in the wash and turned the white part purple. Oh well you can’t tell as much in the pictures.
The cabins had lake access but not a beach. The beach was only a little walk away though so we got to enjoy playing in the water as well as watching Molly jump off the dock. I think Cohen’s favorite part of the vacation was probably watching Molly jump in the water. Troy on the other hand was nervous the whole time that Cohen would jump in along with her.
The kids loved the beach. Sevea practiced her swimming and is doing so well. It was crazy to watch her actually swim. Sure she had on arm floaties but she gets the concept and did really floating too. Cohen loved splashing in the water and had no fear. He definitely needs all the attention of one person. Brynna normally loves water but this water was a little cold for her. But for her first beach adventure she did so well. She enjoyed playing in the sand and getting a little wet here or there.
Fireworks! We didn’t end up going to watch fireworks since the payoff versus the hassle wasn’t worth it with the little ones. Plus the kids had plenty of fun with the fireworks we bought. We were curious to see how Cohen would like fireworks with his sensitivity to sound. He ended up loving them. It took him a little bit to warm up to them but in the end really enjoyed them. He would cover his ears the whole time but he didn’t shy away instead he stared right at them and would ask for more. Sevea really enjoyed getting to be the big girl and help with the fireworks a little more. Chris was great with letting her help but still making sure she was being safe. In the end I think she preferred him doing it more, which is fine by me!
The long weekend went by extremely fast. But as they say, “Time flies when you are having fun.” Until next year…
