We’ve got two months under our belt being the parents to three children. And boy have they been exhausting yet so rewarding. Brynna has certainly been the child who is giving us a run for our money. Everything changed when she started taking the nuk right before she turned 6 weeks old. Before 6 weeks she would fall asleep easily while nursing. But the problem was it was difficult to get her to sleep without nursing…like next to impossible. Then she finally decided to use a nuk. It changed everything. We were able to get her to sleep by using the nuk and a combination of walking around and shhhhing. Which brings us to 2 months where we still use these same methods but she’s pickier about what will work. Her worst time of the day is typically between 5-8. This time is the hardest to get her to sleep and then the hardest time to keep her sleeping. It is exhausting. Besides her trouble with sleep she isn’t the most content baby either. She does okay with tummy time and floor time but not for long. She then wants to be held and most often you need to swaddle her to prepare for sleep time. I think Brynna is definitely trying to tell us she wants to be the baby of the family :)
It is amazing how quickly things can change. I wrote the above paragraph just a week ago. I decided I’d wait to publish her update until after she went to the doctor so I could include her stats. Well within that week things with Brynna have dramatically improved. We ended up taking her to the chiropractor since she seemed to be favoring one side of her neck the way that Cohen did. Plus we had read/heard how beneficial it can be for infants to get adjustments. She seemed to be having gas issues and we figured it could only improve her overall demeanor. She has gone 3 times now and she seems to be happier and can handle life a little better. She plays on the floor longer, she hardly cries to fall asleep, and she will even just sit with you. We actually were able to go out to eat and have her be content in the car seat or being held. Until now she always had to nurse while we were eating or she wasn’t happy.
Now I should clarify Brynna was not the world’s worst baby now or before. She just has her limits and goes from zero to sixty when she reaches them. I remind myself that she isn’t colicky or never sleeps or many other things. She does love her sleep and generally this is why she is upset. She wants to sleep and needs help doing so. So in some ways we should be thankful since she wants to sleep versus the opposite.
Besides sleeping Brynna has been growing and learning. Her doctor appointment went well and she is tracking well developmentally. She clocks in at 11 lbs 2 oz (38%) and 22.75 inches (51%). I think this is the first time one of our kids has had a higher percentage for height than weight. She very well might be our “tall” kid. Comparing to Cohen and Sevea she is .5 inch and 1.5 inches taller respectively. She only weighs 6 oz less than Cohen did but a whole 1lb 2 oz more than Sevea.
We’ve watched Brynna go from a sleepy itty bitty newborn to an alert and aware infant. Her eyesight is getting better and better. She often stares at me when nursing and will focus on others when they come into view as well. She loves watching things above her whether it be a fan or the lights and toys on the play mat. She is full of smiles especially in the morning. She has started cooing and making such cute little sounds. Even when she’s upset she makes some cute noises…sometimes it sounds like she is giggling even though we know she doesn’t find not being happy something to laugh about!
Overall Brynna is a pretty typical 2 month old. Sure has her moments but more and more we get those heart melting smiles and all her fun “talking” that make those difficult moments disappear. With each additional child that joins our family, I feel more and more blessed for each day I get with them. These last two months although exhausting at times are well worth it. So much more fun to look forward to in the next months.
