Of course C is for Cohen and change. We have seen sooooo much change in Cohen in the past year but even more so in the past 6 months. We went from struggling to get him to talk to at many times wishing he would just be quiet. He loves to sing. Everyday he likes to serenade his bus drivers and assistants with his musical talent. Some favorites include the finger song (Daddy finger, daddy finger, where are you? Here I am, Here I am, How do you do?) which he sings in all different voices, wheels on the bus, monkey’s on the bed and jingle bells. They tell me he makes the trips very enjoyable. He also likes to make his bus driver laugh each day when he says “Pizza?” when I get him off the bus.
Preschool has been such a great experience for him. He has grown so much. He is more social. No longer does he shy away from people. He had goals for greeting new people and I loved seeing him go from shying away from people to now greeting everyone by name. He has also definitely exceeded our expectations when it comes to his learning. He now knows all his colors and shapes. He knows his numbers 1-10 and also knows the letters of the alphabet. We are just shocked that he has been able to learn this much in this little of time. He went into school not being able to tell us any of the above. So we are just over the moon with pride for how much progress he has made.
We just recently had a meeting to update on his goals at preschool. His plan expected him to meet his goals by June and since he met them all we figured out new goals to carry him through the end of this year and into next year. He won’t be attending summer school since he doesn’t regress over time off. Next year he needs less special education time and will only spend 1 day working on his personal goals and then 3 days in normal preschool. We are confident he will continue to surprise us and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
