The end of summer is something we can’t avoid but we can end the season with some yummy food and rides at the Minnesota State Fair. Troy and I were excited to go months before hand and even though Brynna would only be just shy of a month old we decided we’d try to make it happen to take the kids. The Zimmer family decided to join us again this year, so we can try more food of course! We planned months ahead to try to go on Friday August 30th to hopefully beat some weekend crowds. We didn’t know then that the weather was going to be unbearable…or so said the forecast. Almost everyday of the fair temps were record high in the 90s with high humidity. Somehow the weather was on our side and we lucked out with cool temps for the morning. As we were leaving around 12:00/1:00 things were heating up and we definitely said a couple thank you’s for how great the weather was for us that morning.
Before we made our way to the bus stop to go to the fair, Troy decided since Cohen had turned the big 2 the other week that he would turn his car seat to face forward. I’m glad Troy just went ahead and did it because if left to me I might have let him sit backwards for quite awhile. I’m never in a hurry to switch since it is safer to face backwards. Cohen seemed to care less that he was now facing the other way. That is until we turned on the dvd player and he realized all that he was missing. Thankfully he doesn’t insist on it being turned on every time we go somewhere…yet!
We were definitely glad we decided to go. We enjoyed looking at all the new baby animals especially the baby chicks. We ate some yummy food and the kids had a blast on the rides. It was Cohen’s first experience with rides (he was just tall enough) and he did well. When the first ride started moving he wasn’t so sure about it but he stayed sitting and realized it was a lot of fun. He wasn’t too happy when he couldn’t ride them. Grayson was funny in that he held on tight to the sides of almost every ride once it started. He’d have a pretty serious face on the whole ride as well. So you might think he wasn’t a fan but he really was. Sevea was a pro and can’t wait till she can go on the even bigger rides. Brynna did well riding in the carrier for the morning. Besides a stop to eat she slept the entire time. We left just as she was getting hungry again. I joked that we should sell the cars and ride the bus because Brynna was able to eat and then enjoy time in mom’s arms. Much better than a car seat.
A sure sign of a successful fair trip…tired kiddos!!
